Lexus Repair: Should You Get OEM Parts Or Aftermarket Parts?

We get asked this question all the time, you see as your Lexus vehicle gets older, then also do the many different parts that work together to make sure that your Lexus is running at its best performance.  So when you find yourself in a situation where it is time to take your car or truck down to your local Lexus Mechanic Shop, then you may have to decide between using aftermarket parts or OEM parts to fix your vehicle.

OEM or original equipment manufacturer parts are exactly as it sounds; these are replacement parts that are manufactured direct from you Lexus manufacture.  In other words these are the same exact parts that the dealer used to install on your Lexus when it was brand new.  The difference with OEM and aftermarket parts is that aftermarket parts are really replacement parts that are not made by the vehicle’s manufacturer but instead by a supplier.

Warranty, Pricing & Quality

If you buy OEM parts then you will know that you are getting replacement parts that have been approved and tested for both safety and quality by your Lexus manufacturer.  Aftermarket replacement parts do not meet the same high standards as OEM parts, which is why you will see that all OEM parts come with a warranty, which is not always the case with aftermarket parts.  Most Lexus owners will want to choose aftermarket parts simply because they are less expensive, but it is important to know that you are sacrificing quality, which could end up costing you more money in the long run if the aftermarket part becomes defective and if it didn’t come with a warranty then you will need to spend more money to buy a new part as well as pay for labor again.

Availability & Compatibility

If you want optimal performance from your Lexus, then the best route to take is to make sure that you buy a part that will fit you vehicle properly.  It is not uncommon for an aftermarket part to not be compatible; unlike OEM parts that are make specifically to fit your car or truck as they are designed by the manufacturer of your automobile.

In the end it is really up to you and your Lexus Repair Shop to decide on whether or not OEM or Aftermarket parts are right for your Lexus and the particular repair job.  If you want to save money on Lexus repair costs then visit an independent local Lexus Repair Fort Lauderdale Shop that has Lexus mechanics that have the same dealership level experience but for a fraction of the cost.
